How To: DIY Perfume Made With Essential Oils

Most of us have a few perfumes that are our favorites. They usually cost way too much, and sometimes, we just cannot justify the price.

Did you know that you can make your own perfume at a fraction of the cost? Further, you can customize it to find your favorite scent. It doesnt matter what your favorite scent is, with a little trial and by tweaking the essential oils until you get it perfect for you.

There are only three ingredients needed to make perfume. They are usually kept in a dark bottle to help preserve the smell. You can use them in a perfume atomizer, or small bottle with a cork top. Some women keep them in a dark bottle, with an eyedropper. This makes it easy to put a drop or two on you wrist, or in the bend of your elbow.

What is needed?

It is a simple process to create your own scent. We suggest to go light with the essential oils as you can always add more aroma by adding a few drops. Made With Oils has the best essential oil brands list where you can choose the oil you think would be best for your DIY perfume.

You will need:
  • Bottle for perfume
  • Roll on
  • Atomize
  • Eye dropper
  • Alcohol
  • Vodka
  • 3 types of quality essential oils

The oils needed:

Base oils

Base oils are the first oil you will need. It is usually a heavy oil and it keeps perfume smelling great naturally.

Medium oil

This is your oil that adds your fruity, earthy, sandalwood and many more. Some popular choices are lavender, peppermint, and vanilla.

Heavy oil

Over time it grows strong. Most people use woodsy scents as their heavy oil. Merged with the other oils, it will bring out their tones.

Using your perfume

Essential oil will last for a very long time. As soon as you have found the scent you like. Shake it well. You can use it right away, but if you allow it to sit for 2-4 months it will bring out the mellow properties of all the ingredients.

Making the mixture

Note: use a small vile and a dropper
  • Put 10 drops of the heavy essential oil scent you chose. This is called a scent note. This will last the longest.
  • Put in 10 drops of your medium essential oil (note). It bends well and last longer than the top notes
  • Now add 10 drops of the top note. This is what you will smell when you first open the bottle thin it fades over time.
You will now need your base. You can use alcohol, but vodka and coconut nut oil. The simple way to know how much you need is to add.

Add the number of drops you added. In this case we added 30 drops. Divide that number by 4. In this case you need 20 drops of base oil. Mix well and allowed to sit for a few weeks.

Put them in pretty little bottles and they make wonderful gift. The best thing of all, you made it all by yourself!
