Non-Laser and Laser Skincare Techniques

Your skin is your body's largest organ, and it's also the only organ that is on the outside of your body. When you combine those two facts, it's only a matter of time before skin damage will start to take place. Many types of skin damage occur naturally such as wrinkles that start to appear with age. Others are a result of specific environmental factors or of medical issues like acne. Luckily, there are non-laser and laser skincare techniques that can treat almost all of those issues for you.

Options in the Laser Therapy Category

Laser therapy is its own entire category within the skincare industry. There isn't a single type of laser or a single skin issue that lasers can treat. There are multiple combinations of both. It's very important to select the right sort of laser therapy to take care of your skin based on the thickness, colour, oily or dryness, and general skin health.

Ablative, non-ablative, and fraxel lasers make up some of your options. In order, those are lasers that resurface your outer layer of skin, lasers that stir up lower layers while leaving the outer layer intact, and lasers that have an impact on all layers of skin.

Ablative lasers are best at getting rid of visible skin issues, like scars or minor wrinkles. Other laser types provide treatments that don't tend to show as immediate results, but do improve over all skin health over time. So, the type of cosmetic laser you will need will be greatly influenced by the current state of your skin health and the goal that you're trying to accomplish.

Non-Laser Skincare Techniques for Better Skin Health

In some cases, lasers may not be the right option. That's when other techniques come into play. The first possibility is intense pulsed light therapy, which works a bit like laser treatment, but only in the sense that it uses light. It's a milder technique than laser treatment because it uses a light that doesn't produce heat or a solid, concentrated beam.

When it comes to resurfacing the outer layer of your skin without using laser devices, your best options are chemical peels or a machine that can perform microdermabrasion, which is basically like sanding the dead skin cells off. Either method can be quite effective, but because the actual techniques used vary it means that you may be a better candidate for one than for the other.

If you're looking for treatment methods that will do more than remove visible blemishes, you'll need to try options that can penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin. Those include radio frequency treatment and other specific forms of sound wave treatment, such as the use of ultrasound. The goal of those treatments is basically to trick your body into thinking cells are being destroyed, or at least attacked. Then your body will start to repair itself.

It's important to note that none of these treatments are instant or permanent fixes. In fact, many of them are designed to be performed over and over again on a fairly regular basis. That said, the number of treatments you will need is going to vary based on the degree of the skin problem you want to be rid of. So, you'll need to consult with experts to develop a plan that will get you on the road to healthier skin as quickly as possible.
